Greenstone Hill is a recently developed suburb, situated on the East Rand of Johannesburg and forms part of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality.

Greenstone Hill is an upmarket suburb, with most houses and sectional title complexes situated in Exclusive Upmarket Estates like Emerald Estate, Thornhill Estate and Bushwillow Park.

Greenstone Hill is situated close to excellent schools, shopping centres, transport routes, medical facilities and the following newly developed commercial and industrial parks: Longmeadow Business Estate and Greenstone Hill Office Park.

This suburb offers a wide variety of different homes, including apartments, townhouses and upmarket clusters to accommodate buyers of different ages and income groups. 

Greenstone Hill has a moderate subtropical climate with little humidity. The winters are mild and sunny, but nights are cold. Summers are pleasantly warm and sunny with frequent late afternoon thunderstorms. Spring and Autumn are mild and sunny but cold snaps can occur in April and September. The average winter temperature is 16° Celsius, with the average summer temperature being 25° Celsius.

Greenstone Hill is located approximately 10 km from O.R. Tambo International Airport, 25 km from the Johannesburg city centre, 16km by road from Sandton and about 11km from the closest Gautrain station. Greenstone Hill has easy access to most major motorways, which include the N3, the R24, the R25 and the N12.

Furthermore, the planned East Rand aerotropolis and the plans for the R84 billion smart city in Modderfontein may boost the popularity of the area even further in the next few years.
